We're doing to be talking with Ken Beyer from KatsBits.com about what has been happening in the world of AI and the rights that creators and consumers have surrounding content generated by AI, or used to train it.
We'll be discussing the implications from recent legal cases and what that means for you as an artist or content creator.
"Only humans can have copyright"
There's been a lot of recent developments with regards to the legal status of content that is generated by artificial intelligence that has implications for your rights to that content. Normally when you create content, you own all the rights to it, but the case is quite different with AI, we'll talk about recent decisions in court that cast doubt that you have rights to
"You can't just take things"
Similarly there have been cases where companies have been sued. They've been sued because they have trained neural networks with content without any consent from the authors. And, those authors have now banded together to sue the likes of OpenAI and Meta, claiming that their technology has been using their content without their consent and in some cases has been able to reproduce details from their books without the author's permission and without compensating them.
In one incredible example, Stephen Fry demonstrates how his voice was effectively stolen, Ursula style, and used to narrate a documentary without his knowledge.
