Corangamite Water Skink Spotting with Greening Australia

FREE Ramsar Week 2026 event

Lake Corangamite is Australia’s largest permanent saline lake. Located near Colac, it sits within the Western District Lakes Ramsar site and supports threatened plants and animals, including the endemic Corangamite Water Skink.

Targeted surveys help identify and track changes to skink populations. They are an endangered species, so it is important to monitor them closely to guide management decisions to best support their survival.

Become a Citizen Scientist for the day and help Greening Australia in the quest to find the elusive skink!

Note:

This event will be physical and requires walking on uneven ground. Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes.

The location of this session will be shared with registered event participants.

If the weather becomes unfavourable or if Extreme or Catastrophic Fire Danger Ratings are declared, the event will be cancelled and participants will be notified as soon as possible.

What to bring:

Bring binoculars if you have them. Please dress appropriately for the weather and be sun smart – wear sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses and bring plenty of water.
