Event description

Woodleigh's School presents a fantastic rendition of Cosi, a powerful and moving piece of Australian Theatre.

Synopsis: Melbourne,1971.

Fresh out of university, Lewis agrees to direct an amateur production with patients at a Mental Health Clinic.

Patient Roy has an impossibly elaborate artistic vision to stage Mozart’s opera, Cosi fan Tutte.  However, there is one small hurdle… no one can sing, and no one can speak Italian!

Against a backdrop of political activism during the Vietnam War, Lewis works outside the box to get this unusual production off the ground. The more time he spends with the patients, the more he realizes, that love is more important than war.

Set in the 1970’s, some of the views expressed by the characters can seem jarring and shocking for a contemporary audience. However, we laugh through our discomfort, laughing with, not at, the characters… and we quickly come to love them.

Woodleigh school last staged Cosi in 2011. We are proud to be staging this much-loved Australian comedy classic again in 2024.

Cosi is a famous Australian comedy.
Warning:
It contains strong language and adult themes. Cosi is recommended for students in Year 9 and above, or at parent discretion.
