Courthouse Classes
Event description
We are offering four class series open to the general public during the Winter months of May, June and July! All classes are drop-in and open to all levels of experience, and entry is via donation here on Humanitix.
Tuesdays 5:30pm - 7pm
Movement Miscellany with Reuben Macdougall Di Manno
Move your body and mind in Coburg this winter! Participants in this drop-in series will be guided through principles of contemporary dance movement and improvisation. Taking a different form each week to keep the attention alive, attendees will be provided with movement phrases for training, improvised scores and tasks, as well as written and spoken word exercises. Perfect for the movement curious or dancers looking to welcome other mediums into their practice.
Fridays 10:30am - 12pm
InPlay Sessions with Alec Katsourakis
Start your Friday with a dose of movement, play, and embodied joy. Join director of InPlay Projects Alec Katsourakis for a weekly 2-hour somatic workshop at Coburg Courthouse. Blending elements of dance, improvisation, and embodied play, these sessions offer a chance to reconnect with your body, shake off the drudgery of everyday movement, and rediscover your inner sense of fun. Drawing from yoga, pilates, and play theory, sessions begin with a gentle warm-up... then expect to get silly, wacky, and wonderfully free in a supportive and open environment!
Saturdays 10am - 10:45am (from 24th May)
Soft Somatics with Chelsea Byrne
A slow and subtle warm-up for a winter weekend. Feel warm, spacious, and supported. Chelsea guides you through a range of simple movements focussing on physicality and attention to recalibrate your nervous system, activate muscle and fascia and connect to your body. No prior movement or dance training required.
Saturdays 11am - 12pm (from 24th May)
Choreohouse with Chelsea Byrne
Experiment with an eclectic mix of choreographic and improvisational tools, techniques, processes and practices. Choreohouse gets those creative juices flowing in a low stakes explorative environment. A space for stimulation, provocation and conversation.
All Courthouse Programming is supported by Merri-Bek City Council and the Coburg Courthouse Residency.
