Coven
Event description
Coven: Women and Witchcraft through Song, Story, and Light
A Halloween Special
Step into the world of shadows and light, where witches rise from history’s whispers. Coven is an electrifying night of music, theatre, and magic that reimagines the witch - not only as villain, but as healer, rebel, and powerful woman in her own right.
Through soaring arias, dramatic ensemble singing, and spoken word, the women of Gente, gente! bring centuries of folklore to life. Expect to hear familiar and new fragments of opera and art song woven seamlessly with poetry, prose, and historical texts that reveal the persecution and celebration of the witch.
Onstage, shifting silhouettes of spells, forests, and trials come alive through live shadow puppetry by Spark Sanders Robinson of Light’s On Theatre. With performances by Lucy Bailes, Sarah Cherlin, Samanta Lestavel, Laura Scandizzo and Nathaniel Kong, coven is as visually striking as it is musically powerful.
Whether you’re a lifelong opera lover or a curious newcomer, Coven promises an unforgettable night that will leave you wondering: when you think of the witch, do you see terror - or freedom?
