How to join Zoom

We recommend you download and install the Zoom application and join from a computer if you want to chat using text typing, but you're welcome to join from a tablet, phone or browser. Hope you can plan to be in a comfortable and safe place at 5.15pm with an internet connection to join our online event. You can join with multiple devices if you like, but please only turn on the microphone or video on one of them at the same time. You are welcome to have your support person with you on the same connection, or different ones. Here is a help document about how to join a Zoom call: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362193-Joining-a-Zoom-video-call

Access

Auslan interpreters will be pinned so their video image appears at all times during the event. Live autocaptioning will be provided within the Zoom application on screen rolling, and in a separate window in full and timestamped with speaker names, or via a separate Otter.ai browser window. You will also be able to change your zoom name and add your pronouns to display. Visual descriptions are optional. Attendees are encouraged to be thoughtful about what and how you share during the event, and provide content warnings if you like.

Participation

You can choose to have your camera on or off, and to communicate over audio or text as you prefer. Please do not show strobing/flashing/visual triggers in your video. You can join and exit the Zoom call as you need, you will pass through a waiting room, and there is a separate room where you can arrange to meet with an organiser during the event via chat if you require. A pen and paper, or another way of note taking might be helpful to help you remember your question, or do a reflection exercise from a speaker. If it is not an access need, we ask you to keep your mic off when not using it. If you are in a particularly noisy environment that may be disruptive to other participants experiences and unable to turn your mic off - the organisers may temporarily silence (mute) your microphone.

Your Comfort and Rest breaks

There will be one 5 minute break at 6.30pm and one 10 minute break at 7.20pm but you are welcome to rest or leave the physical or virtual room as required. You’re welcome to eat, drink, lie down etc, but if you are moving around a lot, please turn off your camera while you are moving.
