Crafting a Vision for Inclusive Employment & Bringing others along with you

About the event

Meaningful work is possible. This new face-to-face workshop will help you create a clear vision for inclusive employment for your family member. You will also learn how to involve others to help achieve the vision for meaningful work.

Whether you are just starting to think about work or already exploring work experience or a paid job, this workshop will help you build practical tools to stay focused on the goal of meaningful employment. You will also learn how to share your vision and bring family, friends and supporters along with you.

In this practical new workshop, families of school-aged students with disability will discover how to:

• Think big about a positive future for work.

• Create a clear vision for meaningful employment and share it with confidence.

• Start conversations that inspire others to get involved.

• Turn the vision into action by learning how to ask and involve others.

About the Presenters
Katrina Dunks joined CRU as a facilitator in 2024, having been connected with the organisation since 2016. A parent of three, including a child with disability, she has extensive volunteer and committee experience in non-profit organisations. Katrina has directed a small business for almost 20 years and has worked across government and private industry. Katrina has also undertaken training in Customised Employment.

Lara Maia-Pike is parent of two teens with disability, she has been involved with CRU since 2016 and joined CRU as a facilitator in 2026. Lara has more than 15 years’ higher education experience in inclusive education, academic advice, career education and accessible design. Her PhD examined post-school transitions for Queensland students with disability.

Who Should Attend?
This workshop is for secondary school aged students with disabilities and their families. Supporters and allies are also welcome to attend.

Participants who attend this webinar will:

• Understand the importance of vision and how to create one

• Identify the passions, strengths, and interests of their young person

• Explore how to pursue valued roles at school

• Create positive introduction for their young person

• Define Customised Employment
