Event description

Crafting compelling storytelling for funding success

Wednesday12 February 2025 10.30 -11.30 am online on Zoom

Join WALN and special guests in a fascinating discussion about weaving elements of storytelling through grant applications to capture the hearts and minds of funding bodies.

At the WALN Annual Gathering we heard from Gretchen Miller whose PhD thesis, ‘The Rescue Project’ involved gathering tales from landcarers across the country; People at the frontline of biodiversity rehabilitation. She crafted their stories into an immersive podcast series where the listener is truly taken to the heart of the community environmental movement. She will share with us the importance of communicating our stories in a time of environmental crisis.

We will be joined by Deb Slater-Lee from State NRM who will provide insight into the funding bodies perspective. With her extensive experience at State NRM she will highlight the importance of telling a story well and the impact that this has on a grant application.

We will also be joined by Ella Maesepp from Katanning Landcare, a group who have been extremely successful in securing funding over the group’s existence. In particular, for not one but three State NRM grants going into 2025. Their exciting projects include creekline revegetation, enhancing dams and working with landholders to plant over 140,000 native trees across Katanning.

This event is generously supported by the WA Government's State Natural Resource Management Program and the National Landcare Network.
