"Crawling From the Wreckage or Trouble With You Is the Trouble With Me, Got Two Good Eyes and Still Don’t See", Exploring with Dan Friedman the Underlying Conceptual Assumptions of the Current World And How We Might Remix Them

We rebel. We make revolution.  We crawl from the wreckage and into another car. We speed off down the road to nowhere. Maybe cars are the problem.  Maybe roads are too.  How do we find another way to move when cars and roads are all we’ve ever known?

This seminar will be an exploration of our social blindness, our inability to see beyond the perceptual, conceptual, and emotional frames constructed by our individualist, competitive, violent, hate-fueled global society. 

Over five weeks of reading philosophers, poets, and all sorts of malcontents, listening to music, watching videos, sharing our thoughts and emotions online and talking together, through Zoom, every Sunday, we will wrestle with the ways of perception, thinking and feeling that have limited our imaginations. We will try to break out of the box of what’s possible to embrace the universe of the impossible and the inconceivable. 

Will we succeed?  It’s doubtful.  Will we make some discoveries along the way? For sure.

Join Dan Friedman, a vintage organizer of the East Institute’s global development community, a grassroots educator, a playwright, theatre historian, producer and poet, in clumping and flumping toward something none of us can see yet.

Leader Biography

Dan Friedman is a playwright, director, theatre historian and life-long grassroots educator and activist.  He is a founder of the Castillo Theatre and a co-convener of Performing the World.  His book, Performance Activism: Precursors and Contemporary Pioneers, the first book-length study of performance activism, was published by Palgrave in 2021.  He currently is on the faculty of the East Side Institute, managing producer of Institute’s podcast, All Power to the Developing, and project manager of Let’s Learn! a  global community-engaged educational project of Lloyd International Honors College of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in collaboration with the  East Side Institute.  www.danfriedmannyc.org
