CRDVS Annual Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month Breakfast 2025
Event description
📅 30 May 2025 | 📍 Cairns | 🎟️ $60pp or $55pp (table of 8)
This year we celebrate over 25 years of flagship events hosted by Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service!
Join us as we honour the herstory of our grassroots service, born from a local action group of committed professionals, now standing as an independent, thriving organisation employing nearly 40 dedicated staff members. Together, we will reflect on the journey, acknowledge those who paved the way, and look boldly to the future of domestic and family violence (DFV) prevention.
We are honoured to welcome Melissa Scaia as our keynote speaker – a global leader in gender-based violence response, co-founder of Pathways to Family Peace, and former executive director of the renowned Duluth Model (DAIP). Melissa will speak on coercive control and victim-survivor led practice, drawing from over two decades of advocacy, training, and international expertise, including her work with UN Women and leading voices in the DFV sector. For more information about Melissa visit her website here: http://www.domesticviolenceexpert.net/
Our CEO, Sandra Keogh will deliver a powerful call to action, challenging the myths that cloud the realities of DFV – confronting the dangerous narrative that positions calculated abuse as emotional dysregulation or poor mental health, and urging us to reclaim the truth in our collective advocacy.
Together, we’ll celebrate the tireless efforts of the women and men – past and present – who have given their time, hearts, and leadership to this cause. We’ll also honour the unwavering compassion and resilience of frontline workers who walk beside victim-survivors every day, and the communities who continue to raise awareness and push for change.
Don't miss this powerful morning of reflection, inspiration, and collective commitment to a safer future.
Tickets: $60 per person, or $55 per person for a table of 8 (tables must be booked in full).
