Creek Freaks: Waterbugs & Frogs Bioblitz
Description
Discover the weird and wonderful waterbugs and frogs that call Darebin Creek home at this hands-on, all-ages event!
What are waterbugs, and why are they important? Waterbugs are tiny aquatic creatures that live in our rivers, creeks and wetlands. They’re highly sensitive to changes in water quality, with different species having different tolerances to pollution. By surveying the types of waterbugs present, we can learn a lot about the health of our waterways.
Frogs are also a great indicator of waterway health. The frog species present the healthier and resilient a waterway is. We will be surveying using the Melbourne Water Frog Census app, which you can download before the event.
Join us to get your hands dirty as we explore Darebin Creek together! You’ll learn how to survey and identify waterbugs and frogs, discovering the fascinating wildlife hiding in and around the water.
All observations collected will contribute to the Great Southern Bioblitz, an international community science event documenting biodiversity across the globe. Come along, get curious and help us uncover the wild side of Darebin Creek!
