Create on Country - Maules Creek

Create on Country is a vibrant weekend of creativity, connection and community, celebrating the nearby Leard Forest and surrounding farmlands and the people, wildlife and landscapes that make this place special.

By sharing skills, stories and knowledge through a range of arts workshops, bushwalks and talks and fireside chats, we will come together to help protect the area from the proposed expansion of the Maules Creek open cut coal mine. 

In particular, we want to celebrate the iconic swift parrot and, over the course of the weekend, help to create and ultimately fly our giant swift parrot! This event will be the endpoint for the 'Flight of the Swift Parrot' tour across NSW, as we raise awareness for this critically endangered bird, under threat from Maules Creek coal mine expansion.

There will be some activities for kids too, just be sure they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Artists, craftspeople and creators from northwest NSW and beyond will share their fabulous skills through a range of hands-on arts and creative workshops. With the swift parrot and the protection of land, water, clean air and community as our themes, there will be activities for adults and kids alike.

The weekend will also include a walk in the Leard Forest, talks on local wildlife and an opportunity to see firsthand the impacts of the Maules Creek mine to date, while spending time in the area and learning more about what remains and what is at stake.

We will camp under the eucalypts at the historic Maules Creek Community Hall, sharing meals, stories, creativity and good company over the weekend.

We have tried to keep costs for attendees as low as possible as we know you are supporting our region.

Ticket options include;

• Catering for the weekend (Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast, morning tea, lunch and inner and Sunday breakfast). Alternatively you can bring your own.

• Non-powered camping sites for Friday and/or Saturday night

• Facilitated workshops by specialists, walks and talks by experts plus some evening activities and kids activities.

• If you can donate a little more than the set ticket price, that would be appreciated. Likewise, if you need some support to attend, please reach out to us as we can help cover costs for those who need it.

Unpowered sites are available at the Maules Creek Hall.

A shared shower and toilet block is available including accessible facilities.

Simple homestyle meals will be provided.
