Creating a Journalling Practice - September 2025
Event description
Do you want to improve your self-awareness in new and creative ways?
Have you always wanted to journal but aren't sure how to start a practice?
Do you need some creative strategies to reduce your stress and improve your resilience?
This course is an exploration of the importance of journalling and some of the popular types. The goal of this course is to present you with a range of options outside written journalling that might work for your own reflective practice. As well as discussing techniques and giving you activities to explore the ideas, Kylie will provide you with some resources and additional references to help you discover more for yourself.
Kylie is a huge supporter of the idea of self-experimentation as a means of developing actions, practices and habits that work well for your unique situation and brain. That is why this course explores and introduces some of the more popular journalling styles and provides you with references to support you in experimenting with them after the workshop.
In this course we will:
- Discuss benefits of journalling and different types
- Explore sketchnoting as a journalling style
- Explore mindfulness activities
- Discuss art journalling
- Explore bullet journalling.
If you would like to improve your self-awareness and mental health management, come along and you might discover a style that works for you!
IMPORTANT Instructions for getting to the location - we are NOT in the Library itself.
FAQs
What do I need to bring to the course?
All materials will be supplied for you, but if you have a notebook or pens you would like to use you can bring them along. You will also be given some pens, cards and resources to take home - along with a link to additional references and downloadable resources.
Do I need to be able to draw?
Not at all. We're going to be doing some simple sketchnote drawings along the way, but part of the techniques we will discuss are being creative in non-drawing ways.
Are there any age restrictions?
This course is designed for people over 18 years of age. However, if you would like to bring your 15+ year old young person along with you then that can be supported. But no one under the age of 18 can attend without a responsible adult.
What is the accessibility like?
Unfortunately this room does have a couple of steps for entry, so it is not wheelchair accessible. The room is across the carpark from the toilets, which are also not accessible. Finding supportive venues that don't require a price increase is challenging. If you have accessibility issues and are interested, please reach out.
