Creating Comic Characters Workshop
Event description
Join comic book author and video game writer Christof Bogacs to celebrate Free Comic Book Day.
Create Your Own Comic Book Character
You will learn to build compelling characters by balancing their flaws, strengths and motivation to ensure maximum drama. Then, you’ll translate these character traits into a memorable design, before featuring your character in a series of short comic strips.
Suitable for ages 6 to 12 years
- 10.15 - 11.15am at Dee Why Library
- 1 - 2pm at Manly Library
- 2.30 - 3.30pm at Manly Library
In this workshop you will learn:
- How to generate compelling characters from scratch
- How to balance negative and positive character traits
- How to express those character traits visually
- How to generate story ideas featuring your character
- How to draw simple three panel comic strips starring your character
Completing your comic? Submit your work to the Young Writers' Competition, entries closing Tuesday 13 May.

Christof Bogacs (He/Him) is a non-binary comic book author, video game writer and public speaker based in Sydney, Australia. He has spoken at schools and libraries, as well as being a featured comic guest at Oz Comic-Con’s around the country. His debut graphic novel Under Kingdom, a middle grade fantasy-comedy for fans of Gravity Falls & Adventure Time.
