Event description

Thursday, October 24 at 9am PT (Recorded, so attendees can watch anytime)

Agents and editors are looking for conflict within and among characters. Make your manuscript one that readers can't put down. Conflict drives action. Action drives the plot. Stories, even true ones, require conflict to pull readers through to the end.

Join novelist and Senior Editor Elena Hartwell Taylor and discover multiple ways to create conflict and drama in any work in progress including fiction, memoir, and narrative nonfiction. Make the most of conflict, which can be internal, external, environmental, and character-driven, along with focusing on character objectives to increase obstacles and stakes.

Presenter Bio: In addition to working as a developmental editor and writing coach, Elena is a published author under both Elena Taylor and Elena Hartwell. Her most recent novel, A Cold, Cold World, continues the Sheriff Bet Rivers mysteries. She's also the author of The Eddie Shoes Mystery Series. Prior to writing novels, Elena worked extensively in the theater as a playwright, director, educator, and designer. She has taught writing and theatre courses at the college/university level for more than twenty years. She holds a PhD in dramatic theory and criticism, a Masters of Education with an emphasis in teaching theatre, and a BA in Mass Media Communications. For more information about Elena, you can visit her website and read her blog about authors, new books, and the writing process.
