Creating engaging virtual meetings using Liberating Structures

Event description

All of a sudden, here in New Zealand and in most parts of the world, people are unexpectedly working from home. Many need to plan and run virtual meetings. In this one hour virtual session, you'll learn how to make your virtual events engaging, productive, creative and fun.

You will experience what it can be like to work together online with interactive practices like Liberating Structures. You'll try out some ways to talk and work that increase engagement, invite creative thinking and create connection, specifically in a virtual environment. There will be a lot of use of chat, breakout rooms, and Google Slides. It's a short session, so we'll keep it simple and fun!

Liberating Structures (LS) are simple methods that anybody can use to improve or change the way work gets done, now and in the future. Every single one of the 33 structures rests on the idea that everybody is included and invited to participate in shaping the group’s shared future. The structures are easy to learn, requiring no lengthy training. They are easy to use and don’t require bringing in an expert.

I'm charging a nominal fee for this event to make it accessible for as many people as possible.

What you'll need:

  • Zoom - we'll use zoom for the meeting. This can be downloaded here: https://zoom.us/download. Zoom lets you connect in a variety of ways - from a laptop, phone app, or by dialling in. This isn’t really a session on how to use Zoom, but you’ll get some good experience WITH Zoom during the time we’re together. Learn more about Zoom: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-...
  • Headphones - sound tends to be better when people wear headphones, but it’s okay for many people without them.
  • Space - a quiet-enough space to hear the session and contribute yourself.
  • Paper and a writing pen or pencil; or tablet and stylus.
  • Some patience, your sense of humour, a little bit of a taste for adventure, or at least some curiosity.
