Creating Welcoming Communities for Migrant Students: Engagement Workshop
Event description
Join us in-person for an interactive session exploring how we can create more welcoming and inclusive communities for migrants to study and thrive on the North West coast. This engaging event will bring together community stakeholders, education providers, local businesses, and migrant advocacy groups to learn from Sally Baker from Refugee Education Australia and collaborate on actionable solutions.
As a key regional hub for education, the University of Tasmania’s Cradle Coast Campus presents a unique opportunity to serve as a central mechanism for learning, connection, and economic growth. By strengthening inclusivity and support systems for students with a migrant or refugee background, we can unlock new pathways for talent, innovation, and community development across the region.
The event will feature a keynote presentation on best practices in fostering inclusivity, followed by a powerful firsthand account from a migrant student about their experiences studying and settling in our community.
Attendees will then participate in a rapid co-design challenge, working in groups to reflect on their learning and develop practical actions to enhance local inclusivity.
This is an opportunity to connect, share insights, and leave with concrete actions to make our communities more welcoming for all.
