Behind creativity.

Imagination
Creating space,
Silence and solitude
Getting out of the rat race
Oh what it is to paint
What it is to create
What it is to write
To stop for a few days.

To go for a walk
And not think about the time
To go to the beat of your own drum
And colour out of the lines
To share a meal
Just to 'be'
Oh what it is to just be free
In creativity.

I went to write my heart, and that's what came out. Poetry seems to be the way I am getting my words out these days ;)

Last year I came to YWAM Adelaide not realising what I was coming for. I thought I was coming to serve and help out at a school. I have now been here for over a year.

I kept coming back to how much I used to love creative retreats in Sydney. They used to be my favourite time of the year each year. We would have time on our own to gather our thoughts, and then come back together and share, being inspired in all our art forms. We would have meals together, sing together, create together..

Then Covid. Disinfectant. Keep your distance. Too fearful to create an event for the fear of it being cancelled. Staying at home, being distracted, working hard, trying to survive. I'm not sure that we have ever gone back to the way things are. When we used to sit around a table and laugh. Board games, fun, simplicity.

Well I'm bringing it back! And I'm bringing Adele Latu with me!

What will these few fun-filled creativity days have in store you may ask? Lets start with the electives:

Awake and Shake!

• Hip hop dance, and yet so much more. Hear Adele's story of her starting street dancing at 41- a complete newbie who, in her own words, was "very inept". Seven years on, alongside motherhood, home educating her four children and growing Australia's freshest Christian clothing brand SOUL SUBMITTED DESIGNS, Adele continues to explore how movement and dance can open hearts to worship, surrender and encounter God.

• Even if you don't dance, come and have fun with us!

Unlock your voice!

• Unlock the voice that you've always known you've had. Break off the hold of being "silenced" and find your inner roar. Work with Lauren Ann, a singer songwriter and slam poet finalist as you explore your unique voice!

• Learn vocal technique, microphone technique..all the techy bits!

• We might even have time to learn some harmonies! Let's perform together.

Let's Get Artistic!

• Have some fun with bubble paints as we create a wave, a tree, flowers or another design with Shiree Lind, a creative in the art field over many years. Doesn't matter if you are good at art, give it a go. Last year doing bubble painting broke something in me. I always thought I was terrible at art, my creation now sits in my room reminding me that there is always MORE!

• Unlock any blocks just like me when it comes to creating art, or painting.

Let's get dramatic!

• Always wanted to have a go at drama and performing arts? These fun improvisational activities will have you in stitches, and inspire you to give acting a crack, whether you've never done it before, or an expert drama teacher. Learn the tips and tricks for engaging an audience.

• Vocal projection, blocking, mirroring, levelling, and more!

Write it down!

• Poetry, songwriting, stories, thoughts. Let's journal, lets write, let's get those ideas and thoughts down.

• Come with something, or create something new.

Investment: $290 including all meals, materials and bunk style accomodation. Limited room upgrades available for extra. Please contact us for a full list of accomodation options. Please note prices are per person for the bunk style, and per room for the extra. Prices range from $20-$115 per night extra depending on the room.

DIY:

We know times are tight financially. If you are a local who wants to just come for the creativity and not stay overnight, you can bring your own food and join us for the sessions only by ticking the sessions only ticket.

The program:

Registrations open 3pm on Thursday 22nd, and program finishes Sunday afternoon at 5pm, with an option to stay longer for additional costs, including a Morialta Falls "awe and beauty" walk on the Monday, with more opportunity to create.

The program also includes an optional showcase on Saturday night, giving people the opportunity to share their creations.
