Sat, 7 Mar, 8:30am - Sun, 8 Mar, 4:30pm 2026 AEST

Event description

In this 2-day professional development course you'll learn how to deliver creative presentations, workshops and courses for any topic in both the in-person and online spaces for adult learners. You will build a library of enlivening facilitation processes that will keep your attendees engaged from the get-go to the final bell. Inspired by and drawing on the work of some of the best facilitation teachers in the world - including Robin Clayfield, Robina McCurdy and Shani Graham - this short introductory course will put you on the path to becoming a rock-star facilitator of the future.

During the course you will:

  1. Gain insights into the context of learning, including developing sensitivity to the needs of neurodiverse and CALD* learners.

  2. Learn how to create lesson plans that balance style with substance.

  3. Understand how adults learn - the three modes of learning - and how we can deliver more effective learning outcomes.

  4. Build a library of creative teaching processes and resources

  5. Practice facilitating a creative teaching session.

By the end of the course you will have the confidence to plan, create and facilitate sessions ranging from 1-hour to 1-day. The learning environment will be fun, supportive and sensitive to learners needs.

About the Facilitator

Gavin Hardy is Northey Street City Farm's adult education coordinator. Gav has been facilitating community-based workshops in design, drawing, permaculture, arboriculture, agroforestry, horticulture and ecology for two decades. He learnt his craft mostly with Robin Clayfield from Earth Care Education and also from Robina McCurdy (Earth Care Aotearoa) and Shani Graham (Living Smart WA). Gav continues to learn about creative facilitation processes from his peers, actively seeks to develop new ways of teaching and aims to bring joy and fun into the education space (as it's a great way to learn!).
