Facilitated by Scotia Monkivitch (Creative Recovery Network), the Creative Recovery Training program offers training for those wish to work in communities that have been affected by disasters – in the immediate after-effect and then into the community’s recovery journey.

This training is pitched to those practitioners working across Arts, Community, Local Government, Emergency Services, Health, Education and other sectors associated with community disaster preparedness and recovery.

Please noteThis is an intensive ‘Facilitator Training’ program and you will need to have experience working with diverse groups of people. This is not a program designed to produce your own artwork or receive art therapy within our structure; you are required to have a clear understanding of the difference between working as an artist and working as a facilitator in a creative setting.

The training is an introduction level engagement to establish an understanding of the disaster context and trauma informed best practice in working with communities impacted by disaster.

The program consists of resources, conversations, reflections and learning about the development of creative recovery strategies – unpacking knowledge content, provocative scenario application, reflective tasks to assimilate and apply knowledge. Together we will build a tool kit of relevant resources, collegial connections and plans for ongoing peer support – the establishment of a community of practice.

Workshops are limited to 20 participants and we aim to get a good cross section of sectors represented.

This is a Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund project through the joint Commonwealth/State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
