Creative Sculpture (8 weeks) 25T2
Event description
Introduction to Polymer Clay Sculpture
No previous sculpture experience needed to come and enjoy yourself learning about this fun and flexible medium. The class will teach techniques that will empower you to create 3d projects at home on a small budget, using hand tools and a regular home oven. The focus will be on a main artwork, with experimentation and exploration along the way. Students will construct a growth inspired piece, and time permitting, we will delve into more extensive techniques and playful experimental pieces.
What will be covered in this course?
In this course you will learn how to work with armature wire and foil to construct a stable support to sculpt onto. These techniques will demonstrate how to get the maximum distance out of the minimum of clay.
Students will have fun playing with different methods of creating texture and shapes. We will use a variety of sculpture tools, along with experimenting with found objects, and how you can create your own texturing tools.
We will have fun playing around with growth formations like mushrooms, fungi, corals, succulents etc, to create a detailed artwork.
There will also be fun little side projects along the way to demonstrate various techniques.
By the end of this course students will have learnt?
By the end of this course students will be able to sculpt independently at home. They will understand the fundamentals of constructing and sculpting with polymer clay (sculpey), and realise the unlimited potential of this medium.
There will be information sheets given to the students that will contain notes and reminders of the processes learnt in class if needed.
