Creative Weaving with Julieann Brooker

Learn to transform plant fibres into baskets, platters, wall hangings and sculptures.

Eurobodalla Fibre & Textile Artists Group (EFTAG) member, artist and designer Julieann Brooker will guide you to prep, shape and complete at least one piece, and practice the skills to continue creating at your own pace.

No weaving experience required – creative weaving offers mindful, joyous creative play that has no bounds for both beginners and experienced crafters. Leave with your creativity reignited, new connections and a sustainable art practice.

This hands-on workshop includes:

• Tuition for the contemporary 'random weave' technique

• Guidance recollecting and preparing plant fibres for weaving and basketry

• All materials supplied including foraged Bangalow palm inflorescence. You are welcome to bring small collections from nature to make your weave personal to you.

• Connection and play!

Bio

Julieann is a highly experienced educator integrating creativity, wellbeing, sustainable living and sustainable art practices. Julieann graduated with a BA Design and worked for several decades as an art director, graphic designer and higher education lecturer in Sydney and London. In the last decade she completed a Masters in Wellbeing Science (MAPP), Diploma of Sustainable Living, became a yoga and meditation teacher and has attended numerous art courses and workshops. Moving to rural NSW, Julieann re-established several art practices, predominately exploring sculptural basketry using natural fibres and recycled materials. Her experience and observation of the effects of the 2019 bushfires inspires much of her work. Julieann is passionate about encouraging people of all ages and abilities to carve out time for creative activities. Informed by regular cross-disciplinary study and practice and rich life experiences, her approach to teaching is inclusive and playful, often combined with a good dose of humour.
