Fri, 22 Aug, 6pm - 7pm AWST

Event description

We'll bring the crime, you bring the wine.

The Bindoon Library, in conjunction with Books in the Brewery, present local WA crime authors, Louise Wolhuter and Shaeden Berry, who have both been shortlisted for the Premier's Book Awards 2025. Led by Toby Halsey, our authors will have a crime-fuelled conversation in this celebration of Love to Read Local month, speaking about their books and their process, crime fiction in movies and TV, with an opportunity for questions from the floor.

What better way to spend a chilly winter's evening than in a warm and cozy library, hearing authors speak about their spine-chilling tales? Bring your favourite alcoholic beverage and we'll provide nibbles and soft drinks. Both authors will have copies of the books available for purchase on the night.

A massive thanks to Writing WA for their generous sponsorship of this event.

Approx times:

5:30pm - Doors open

6:00pm - Panel discussion & readings

7:00pm - Book sales, signings, photo ops

Louise Wolhuter

Louise Wolhuter grew up in northern England and moved to Queensland (in a roundabout way), before settling in Perth to raise a family. Author of An Afterlife for Rosemary Lamb (2022) and Shadows of Winter Robins (2024) which has been shortlisted for the WA Premier’s Book Awards 2025 in the Fiction Book of the Year category, she writes what she terms ‘twisty fiction’ with a focus on lives that creep up on people and there being more to everyone than meets the eye. She currently works as an Education Assistant in a primary school, which leaves her early mornings, weekends and school holidays to write.

Shaeden Berry

Shaeden Berry is a writer with a BA in English Literature and an MA in Creative Writing. Her short stories have featured in anthologies such as Kill Your Darlings’ New Australian Fiction 2023, The Unexpected Party and Strangely Enough. She lives in Boorloo with her partner and their two cats, Frumpkin and George. Her debut novel Down the Rabbit Hole (2024) has been shortlisted for the WA Premier’s Book Awards 2025 in the Emerging Writer category. Her second novel, At Cafe 64 is due to be published in November 2025.

Toby Halsey
