Description
This Critical Incident Stress Management course is designed for all public safety personnel to provide a comprehensive, systematic approach to addressing critical incidents and trauma. It delves into critical incident stress, including assessing crises and their effects on those involved. It helps students understand why different incidents require different responses, timing, and individual or group intervention. Students learn why Critical Incident Stress is considered an occupational hazard and identify various types of stress in themselves, co-workers, family, and others. Students are provided with proven tools and techniques for developing coping skills. Students practice developing critical incident stress debriefings and defusings. This course further explores how public safety peer support groups and critical incident stress management teams respond to traumatic events, as well as ways to improve outcomes for those involved.
