Critical Race Social Work Praxis: Manifesting Models of Liberation (CRSSW 4th Biennial Convening)
Event description
Join Critical Race Scholars in Social Work's Biennial Convening -- Critical Race Social Work Praxis: Manifesting Models of Liberation. The theme was developed in the spirit of centering critical race theory in our ongoing struggle toward liberation and justice. As we have seen fierce pushback against Critical Race Theory, particularly in higher education, we hope for this convening to be a space of freedom to discuss the realities of the effects of these efforts on our profession and how our work cannot just lead to liberation for those we serve, but lead to a better future.
Looking at our present and our future, how can we as social work and social-work adjacent folks disrupt the status quo and the anti-forces in order to move towards true liberation?
We are looking forward to hearing from our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Alan Dettlaff, author of Confronting the Racist Legacy of the American Child Welfare System: The Case for Abolition and advisor to UpEnd Movement, as he shares how his work in the social welfare field has led him to abolition. We will also have panels led by Dr. Susan Lares-Nakaoka, Dr. Michael Massey, and guest proposals.
