Event description

Join us for a special guided walk through Crooked River Estate, home to Crooked River Winery—and a remnant patch of endangered Illawarra Lowland Subtropical Rainforest.

After a sold-out Walkshop in 2024, we’re excited to return to this iconic local winery, which is also the site of an ambitious environmental regeneration project.

Joel Walsh, Sustainability and Operations Manager at Crooked River Estate, is leading the way with a program of bush regeneration and revegetation. The project aims to reduce flood impacts, encourage natural predators of vineyard pests and diseases, and build long-term ecological resilience on the property.

In this year’s Walkshop, Joel will be joined by Emma Rooksby, Chair of Landcare Illawarra. Together, they’ll guide participants through the rainforest and vineyard areas, sharing insights into the environmental restoration work underway. We’ll also be on the lookout for the elusive and endangered Daphnandra johnsonii—Illawarra Socketwood.

The morning will wrap up with a relaxed BYO picnic lunch. Sweet treats and tea and coffee provided.

Please note: The walk includes some hills, grassy slopes and extended standing time. Please wear outdoor clothing, a hat and sturdy walking shoes, and bring sunscreen, insect repellent, water and something to eat.
