CROSS STREET: Dave McEvoy Group - Pat Jaffe/Zac O'Connell Duo
Event description
Dave McEvoy Group + Pat Jaffe/Zac O'Connell Duo
A visit from one of Australia's finest pianists, arguably the nicest room in melbourne for music, a very sensible 2:30pm start time, pretty chamber jazz music, baked goods, aesthetically pleasing bookshelves, what more could you ask for from a gig really.
Together we will be playing two sets of music in the library space at Cross Street/Merri-Bek City Band Room. The opening set will be a real treat, with the Naarm premiere of a suite of new music for piano, voice, bass and saxophone by celebrated Adelaide/Tarndanya pianist Dave McEvoy. Dave's songs tell captivating stories of hope, wonder and protest, and the music from his upcoming EP will be brought to life with a dreamy lineup of improvisers - Merinda Dias-Jayasinha (voice), Zac O'Connell (alto saxophone) and Claire Abougelis (double bass).
The other set will see the debut duo performance of Zac O'Connell and pianist/composer Pat Jaffe. These two met in the nerdiest way possible (at jazz camp while in high school) and have played together in various formats over the decade since. In this set of new compositions, they'll explore a range of sound worlds ranging from lyrical chamber jazz to dynamic free improvisation.
As well as a regular ticket option, there is also the alternative option of bringing a cake (or other home-baked treat of your choice) to share as your ticket.
Doors at 2:00pm, music from 2:30pm.
