Event description

Crossbones is this year’s original Middle School production – a self-devised jukebox musical packed full of catchy tunes, energetic choreography, puppetry and LED screens that will take you to another world! Devised with the help of the brilliant, Brisbane-based, international theatre company, Dead Puppets Society, the show started with the premise: “what would happen if female pirate captains ruled a civilization that plied their trade across a ‘sea’ of clouds?”

We know you and your whole family will enjoy the infectious energy and undeniable talents of our huge cast and crew of Middle School students!

SYNOPSIS

ACT ONE:
The show opens with the funeral of the Pirate Queen Gilda, where her grieving son, Ronan, is abducted and sold into slavery. Waking up in the brig of 'The Bone Rattler' - the cloud ship of Free Captain Maeve - Ronan is soon tasked with teaching Roisin ('Rosheen') - Maeve's daughter - the art of swordplay, and promptly falls in love with her. It turns out that Maeve is in the race to replace Gilda as the new Pirate Queen and Maeve's crew is hellbent on making it to The Rubicon - the final port on the edge of the uncharted territories. Upon arriving at the port, Maeve's long-held, (secret) family heirloom reveals the location of the mysterious Zodiac Archipelago, but a great storm scatters the fleet as soon as it departs, and many lives are lost.

ACT TWO:
Roisin mourns the loss of her crew mates and resolves to continue her mother's mission. The survivors make landfall on the Isle of Chiron ... and the Isles of Castor and Pollux ... but realise their goal is the Isle of Nemea. There, Roisin discovers that the final test she must overcome is more fearsome than she ever could have imagined.
