Event description

Join a FREE Crown Reading session with Studio A artist and four-time Archibald finalist Thom Roberts at Stanton Library. In celebration of International Day of People with Disability.

Artist Thom Roberts' ritualistic ‘crown readings’ are a meaningful shared moment between the artist and his audiences, friends, and colleagues.

Roberts is fascinated by people’s ‘crowns’ (the area on the back of the head where hair grows out in a coil-like formation) and he loves to read them. Gently placing his hands on the top of your head, Thom will peer inside and find creatures within - everything from ants to ‘elephants bodies’ - and use these to decipher an alternate version of your identity. Thom translates these readings into cryptic marker drawings, depicting creatures he sees dwelling within your crown, and gifts them to you.

Accessible parking spaces are available at both the Council Chambers visitor car park and the Ridge Street car park, with lifts available for all attendees.

Studio A is an artists studio in Crows Nest that aims to break down barriers faced by artists with intellectual disability. The studio provides artists with opportunities and resources to develop their creative talents, and offers professional development pathways and a supportive environment.

This event is being held in celebration of International Day of People with Disability (Tuesday 3 December 2024).
