Cruising Information Night: Life at Sea "The Reve Whelan Way"
Event description
“There is nothing more enticing, disenchanting, and enslaving than the life at sea.”
— Joseph Conrad
Whether you’re dreaming of coastal cruising or setting sights on a global circumnavigation, this information night is designed to inspire and inform. We’ll explore key aspects of preparing for life at sea and hear firsthand from a family who did just that—embarking on a 10-year sailing journey around the world.
Introducing the Whelan Family and Reve: A Life Less Ordinary
When you live on a boat, you never truly stop moving. The sea rises and falls beneath you—sometimes gently rocking you to sleep, sometimes propelling you across entire oceans. This is the rhythm of life that Kevin and Jayne Whelan chose to embrace with their children, James and Alexis.
What began as a simple idea—a three-month family sailing holiday—became a ten-year circumnavigation of the globe. In 2002, they left Sydney Harbour aboard Reve, their 45-foot Farr yacht. By the time Reve returned home in 2012, the Whelans had become a true sea family, raising their children in a world of waves, winds, and wonder.
