CSU Extension Colorado Cottage Foods Training (ON-LINE)

UPDATE April 2026: Please note, all CSU Extension Cottage Foods classes are on hold, beginning May 2026, while CO House Bill 26-1033 is in legislation. This house bill proposes an expansion of the Cottage Foods Act. Once it is determined if the bill has passed, Cottage Foods trainings will either be resumed immediately (if it fails), or remain on temporary hold until the curriculum can be updated to reflect the necessary educational requirements. Determination on the outcome of the bill is expected mid-May. CSU Extension is proactively redesigning the curriculum in anticipation of potential changes. However, updates cannot be completed until the bill is finalized.

Food safety training for Colorado Cottage Foods producers

Are you interested in producing food from a home kitchen with intent to sell to the public? If so, you need to complete a food safety training per the Colorado Cottage Foods Act. This training meets that requirement and upon passing, provides you with a certificate of training valid for three years. Course topics include: basic food safety applicable to food prepared in a home kitchen, packaging and labeling requirements, and an overview of eligible and non-eligible Cottage Foods products.

In addition to the above-mentioned content, this course offers 30 minutes of training focused on business basics to help you succeed as an entrepreneur.
