Cultivating Inclusive Environments: Moving Beyond Good Intentions
Event description
Creating truly inclusive environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples requires more than acknowledgment—it demands intentional action, cultural humility, and systemic change. This workshop provides the tools, insights, and practical strategies needed to shift from awareness to meaningful inclusion in workplaces, schools, and communities.
Workshop Highlights:
- What is an Inclusive Environment?
Explore the key elements of an inclusive space and why Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples often feel excluded. Understand the difference between diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging.
- Breaking Down Barriers to Inclusion
Unpack the systemic, structural, and interpersonal barriers that hinder inclusion. Identify the everyday actions and mindsets that unintentionally exclude Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples—and learn how to shift
them.
- Building Culturally Safe Spaces
Gain practical strategies to foster cultural safety—ensuring Indigenous peoples feel respected, valued, and empowered to fully participate. Learn how to create workplaces and community spaces where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices are not just present but heard and influential.
- The Role of Allies in Inclusive Environments
Allyship is an ongoing practice, not a label. Learn how to be an active, effective ally by amplifying Indigenous perspectives, sharing power, and challenging exclusionary norms.
