Thu, 19 Jun, 10am - 12pm AWST

Event description

For over 60,000 years Aboriginal people have been using cultural burning practices for land, plant and animal management and to improve the health of country. Cultural burns benefit both the environment and the traditional way of living on country.

Learn from Wadandi custodian Zac Webb, of Undalup Association, about traditional, cultural burning practices as we walk through Quedjinmia Reserve. Learn how this method preserves essential habitats and promotes the regeneration of native plants that thrive after low intensity fires.

You will also hear from Joe Caspersz-Loney (City of Busselton), who will provide a local government perspective, Kelly Paterson, local botanist and Friends of Marri Reserve volunteer, and Danae Plowman, Friends of Quedjinmia Reserve convenor who has been monitoring post-fire in Quedjinmia.

  • Lunch included.

  • Please wear covered shoes and wet weather gear. An email providing details on an alternative, undercover venue will be sent the day prior to the workshop if the weather looks too wet.

  • Parking and toilets are at the Naturaliste Community Centre. Overflow parking is available at the Dunsborough Playing Fields.

  • Meet in Quedjinmia Reserve at the edge of the NCC carpark. Banners will indicate meeting place.
