Cultural Intelligence in Mental Health (Level 1) (Online) - Feb

This training aligns to Capability 3 - Working with diverse consumers, families and communities.
Grounded in the evidence-based Cultural Intelligence (CQ) Model, this clinician-focused training develops practitioners’ capacity for clinical cultural responsiveness—the ability to intentionally recognise, understand, and respond to the cultural influences on mental health and wellbeing, help-seeking behaviours, clinical presentation, treatment outcomes and the therapeutic relationship.
Build the skills needed to embed cultural safety at the forefront of your service delivery with Muslim and culturally and linguistically marginalised clients.
Level 1 consists of 6 modules:
Module 1 – Cultural Intelligence in Mental Health Care;
Module 2 – Culturally Intelligent care with Muslim clients;
Module 3 – Cultural Values (A);
Module 4 – Cultural Values (B);
Module 5 – Sociolinguistics in the counselling room;
Module 6 – Using psychological assessment to identify and work with culture).
Pre-reading will be provided. Participants are encouraged to attend Level 1 prior to attending Level 2, but it is not a pre-requisite.
This session will be delivered online via Zoom. A link to access the session will be sent 2-days prior.

Psychologists, mental health workers, counsellors, social workers, mental health nurses, allied health professionals, peer support workers, community support workers.

Facilitators

Monique Toohey - Psychologist / Cultural Intelligence Facilitator (Adv), Centre for Muslim Wellbeing (CMW)
Monique is a registered Psychologist with 30 years’ clinical experience delivering culturally responsive psychological services, mental health education and wellbeing programs to Muslim and culturally and linguistically diverse communities. She is a vocal advocate for culturally responsive mental health services and a Certified Cultural Intelligence Facilitator (Advanced), having trained staff across more than 400 organisations to strengthen cultural responsiveness using the evidence-based CQ Model. Monique co-authored the Multicultural Counselling curriculum and served as Lead Lecturer at Australian Catholic University. She is also a TEDx Docklands speaker, presenting ‘Culture Eats Individuality for Breakfast’, Author of multiple publications and featured in Amazon Prime docuseries on racism, 'Unheard'.
