Description

Learn from Senior Wurundjeri Educator Chris Hume about the significant history of the land of which you are walking and learn about the connection between Country and Wurundjeri Culture.

Bunjil Reserve is one of seven in the Panton Hill Bushland Reserve system, with each reserve named after a local species in the Woi-wurrung language. Bunjil reserve is home to a great diversity of native plant species and also hosts a Wurundjeri Food and Fibre Medicine garden and 7 seasons seating circle.

Chris Hume is a proud Yorta Yorta and Boonwurrung man with a strong commitment to cultural leadership and community wellbeing. With over ten years’ experience supporting Aboriginal men and Cultural Practice, Chris worked as a Cultural Wellbeing Coordinator at Mullum Mullum before joining the Torch program as an Indigenous Arts Officer in Victorian prisons. Earlier this year, he joined the Education team at the Wurundjeri Corporation. Along with his impressive career, Chris has remained committed to community and cultural empowerment through his role at the Southern Warriors Motorcycle Club, which works to address and prevent family violence, and as a passionate boxing mentor at his gym in Healesville. Chris himself is a Masters Boxing champion, being named NAIDOC Sportsperson of the Year in 2024.
