Cultural Walk at Garambi Baanj

Learn from Senior Wurundjeri Environment Educator Joe Costello about the significant history of the land of which you are walking and learn about the connection between Country and Wurundjeri Culture. 

This walk is being held at Garambi Baanj, which means "laughing waters" in the traditional Woi wurrung language, and is a place of vital ecological and cultural significance. In the words of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation: "it is one of only a few known remaining iuk (eel) traps on Country once found the length of the Birraung (Yarra) and the Maribyrnong". Meeting point: Intersection between Reynolds and Yarra Braes Rd in the Laughing Waters Yarra Valley Parkland. Parking: Along the road under the power-lines.

Walk details: This walk will be ~2.5 kilometres, following formed trails in a bushland area. There will be stops along the way at sites of cultural significance. There are some gradual uphill and downhill slopes throughout the walk. It is possible conditions maybe slippery with minor tripping hazards. If you don't feel confident navigating these natural hazards please let us know.

Please bring:

• Walking shoes suitable for walking along bush tracks.

• Outdoor clothing appropriate to the weather

• Water bottle.
