Culturally Responsive Palliative Care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples

PEPA aims to improve health care professionals’ knowledge, skills, and confidence in the palliative approach to care for people with a life-limiting illness. Information provided will cover the fundamentals of the palliative approach to care whilst supporting culturally appropriate and sensitive palliative care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The content of this FREE workshop will be delivered online over a three-week period. These online workshops will provide participants with a greater understanding of cultural considerations when providing palliative care and how these learnings might be incorporated within the facilities and services in which they work.
Learning Objectives:
- To appreciate diversity in contemporary Australian society
- To work with people who have a life-limiting illness and their families to understand their culture-based needs
- To communicate effectively with people of diverse cultures who have a life-limiting illness and their families
- To reflect upon how my own culture impacts on my care of people who have a life-limiting illness and their families
- To apply the principles of culture-centred care when caring for people who have a life-limiting illness and their families
