About this training:
This two-day training will give you foundations for working within a culturally responsive trauma informed framework. Content covers neurobiology, Aboriginal worldviews, trauma informed care and worker wellbeing.
Learning outcomes:
• Knowing why and how to provide trauma informed care in a culturally responsive way
• A good balance of theory, current context and frameworks to support your practice
• Justice driven trauma informed practice tools and skills
• An understanding of how to design your service and provide services in ways that don’t re-traumatise people
• Worker wellbeing strategies
About the facilitators:
Rowena Lawrie is the founder and Director of Yamurrah. Rowena is a PHD candidate with Sydney Uni and has worked as a clinical social worker for more than 25 years. She has a background in law and justice , post grad studies in Neuroscience and a strong policy and research background, to add to her written works and clinical practise. She lives and works in her local community in Darkinjung Country and is a descendant of Wakka Wakka and Wiradjuri nations - her matriarchal tribal line extends to Leichhardt River, Gulf of Carpentaria. Rowena is a member of the Clinical Council, National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, Gudjagang Ngara Li-dhi; and Associate Member, Barang Regional Alliance. Rowena has been awarded the 2023 Aboriginal Social Worker of the Year by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
Dr Mareese Terare has over 35 years’ experience working in the trauma sector, specialising is education in child protection, domestic and family violence and sexual abuse. Mareese is a mother and grandmother and her traditional connections are with language groups Nganduwal, Minjungbal Bundjalung (Tweed River) and Goenpul Nations (North Stradbroke Island) country and a South Sea Islander descendant. Mareese holds a PHD in social work and is also Senior Lecturer at University of Sydney.
