Culture on the Kiewa with John Murray
Event description
Join John Murray, Yorta Yorta and Dhuduroa descendant, for some cultural insights on the banks of the Kiewa river.
John will lead a hands-on morning where you will participate in a smoking ceremony, help create a Bora ground for cultural activities, and hear the story of the scar tree at the site.
Where: Kiewa river, meet at the Killara picnic area carpark.
What to expect: You will be walking on natural, unpaved and possibly uneven surfaces. Once we reach the site, we will be using rake-hoes to create the Bora ground – you might like to bring gloves.
What to bring: BYO water bottle, gardening gloves, wear closed shoes and long pants, and dress for the weather.
Weather watch: This walk will go ahead unless there are floods, thunderstorms or heavy rain predicted.
Registration prior to the event is essential for communication, safety and insurance purposes. Numbers are limited so please register to reserve your place.
