The Slow Pour: a phone-free café hangout

Phones away when you come in the door. The kettle's on.

The Slow Pour is a screen-free café hangout:1.5 hours, no notifications, real people, real connection. You'll turn your phone off as you arrive. In return you get a chair, a hot drink, great company, guided creativity and a proper evening off from the wee glowing rectangle.

This is the first in a series of Alba Unplugged evenings hosted at Brera Hyndland n partnership with NomadAlba Collective. Come alone, come with a friend, come to meet a stranger.

What you get

• A cosy cuppa

• 1.5hrs of uninterrupted time just for you

• Creative expert guidance to Let Your Creative Out

• Canvas, paints and brushes

• A piece of creativity to take home and new friendships hopefully formed

What happens

• 6.30pm: arrival, phones off and grab a cuppa and settle in

• 6.45pm: a short welcome from your creative host Bianca

• 6.45–7.45pm: a quiet hour to create with guidance or let your creative out your way

• 7.45–8pm: an collective clean up and creative sharing

• 8pm: phones returned, doors close.

You are here to Let Your Creative Out so included in your ticket and free cuppa is guided creativity, a canvas, paints and brushes. You do not have to be an artist or even consider yourself creative, you just have to be willing to let your creative out.

Access and comfort

• Lighting is warm and low. Music is ambient.

• You are welcome to sit alone the whole evening. No one will pressure you to talk.

• Bring headphones or a book if you'd like a clear "I'm focused" signal.

• ESOL learners and English learners at any level are welcome. Host will speak clearly and use simple words.

• Venue is on ground level and for accessibility requirements check venue directly.

• If you need any adjustments to attend, please email us and we'll see what we can do.

Phones and photography

Phones go off on entry as a shared commitment. If you're expecting an urgent call, for instance as a caregiver or on-call duty, lstick your phone on silent.

About Alba Unplugged

Alba Unplugged is a series of phone-free community gatherings hosted across Scotland in partnership with cafés, community libraries, pubs and village halls. Formats include The Slow Pour (café hangouts), The Braw Howff (pub evenings), Brae n Blether (walk-and-talks), The Nosh n Natter (shared suppers), The Book Nook (quiet reading hours) and Tales and Tunes (storytelling, spoken word and live music).

Alba Unplugged is bringing back the analog and the in person in a time when AI consumes the headlines.

Tickets

General admission tickets are priced by ‘pay what you can’. 50% of ticket money will go into a pot for the creative expert, and 50% will go towards covering event costs. Our cost to run the event is approximately £44.90 per person, so we suggest paying £42 plus booking fee for a ticket if you can.

£44.90 ticket = £22.45 to Facilitator's pot, £22.45 to event costs.
