From researching and liaising with designers, to considering theme and deciphering content, curating a fashion exhibition has many elements to final realisation.
Join Powerhouse Curator Glynis Jones for this webinar as she discusses her curatorial practice, and how she has worked with a vast range of contemporary designers and the museum’s collection to curate fashion exhibitions of great beauty and innovation. She will share practical suggestions for making the most of the garments you select for display.
Glynis Jones is curator of fashion & dress with responsibility for the Powerhouse’s diverse holdings comprising men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing and accessories from the 18th century to the present, fashion plates and swatchbooks, and archives including Berlei, Speedo, Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson.
She initiated a program of documenting Australian subcultural and alternative style through photography and filmed oral histories. Glynis developed the online Electronic Swatchbook project, a public domain archive of high-resolution images of fabric swatches from the Powerhouse collection.
Glynis has curated numerous fashion exhibitions including Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson: Step into Paradise, Collette Dinnigan and Making It: 20 years of Student Fashion to name just a few.
This webinar is designed for staff and volunteers of smaller museums and the collecting sector. A 30-minute presentation will be followed by a 15-minute Q+A session. The webinar is free, but booking is essential. You may wish to pre-register your questions to Glynis when you book your tickets.
