This is a hybrid event. We have limited in-person seating available with only 60 tickets, so secure yours early.

For those joining remotely, online participation is available.

Thanks to you for

  2. Aligning with SecTalks' no-bullshit code of conduct

  3. Keeping the venue nice and tidy during and after the session

# What is Ninja Night

This is a session where you show off your computer hacking skills or learn a new one. A typical evening goes like this: you join the live session, the CTF challenge is presented to all the teams, and everyone starts hacking and collaboratively solving problems in a casual and fun environment. The objective is to get as many flags as possible in 90 minutes. The first three teams to get the most points wins and will be awarded prizes, while getting the opportunity to present their way through the challenge in the next ninja night session.

## Agenda

- Welcome and Introduction - Please arrive at 6 pm promptly for an on-time start of CTF

- Player and Team Registration

- Game kick-off

- The awarding of prizes

- Wrap-up

## Challenges

Since this is our first ninja night in a while, we will be using the session to gauge the level of capability from everyone. Therefore, there will be a good mix of easy and difficult challenges across the following categories:

  • Web

  • Digital Forensics

  • Cryptography

  • OSINT

  • Binary Exploitation

## Be prepared

Bring along a device with a reliable internet connection.

### New player registration

There will be enough time to set up an account and team during the session, while you can get started with creating an account within the warzone page beforehand at https://warzone.siu23.com/portal. The CTF page details will be further shared closer to the session.

This is a learning exercise for everyone. The idea is to think about problems, make friends and have fun. Don't treat it like a competition. If this is your first time participating in a CTF, check out SecTalks CTF 101 presentations https://www.sectalks.org/ctf101/

## Team Creation and Prizes

The winner is the first team that score the most. Each team will consist of 5 players, so bring along your friends or make new ones in the session.

The winner will win the praise and admiration of fellow attendees. Alongside thanks to Tanto and Mercury for sponsoring the prizes, the top three in-person teams will be awarded gift cards, Raspberry Pis, and various sponsors' merch with a value of up to $300.

Gentle prods and hints will be offered during the session to move things along if people get stuck. The goal is to learn, not to beat your head against a wall for days on end.

Have fun. Learn. Mentor if you are able to. Participate, or just social. This is supposed to be a fun, learning event for the security and hacker community.

How to find us on the day?

An organiser will be on the bottom floor until 6:15 to help attendees access the lifts.

Speed hiring

There is an opportunity for potential employers to do an impromptu 30-second description of their open role. If you are interested, speak with one of the organisers before the start of the session.

Please note the best way to support SecTalks and tell others about your open roles is through sponsorship. We encourage companies, small or large, to come forward and support their local community.
