    Event description

Ataba is a Palestinian Dabke group based in Gadigal/Sydney. Dabke is a traditional folk dance that originated in the Levantine region, which includes Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. It's a group dance that combines circle and line dancing, and is often performed at weddings, celebrations, and cultural events.

We are running this workshop to give people the opportunity to learn about the beauty of our Palestinian culture while also raising money for our friend Mokhtar in Gaza.

Mokhtar is 18 years old. He and his family of seven (Father Saeed, Mother Manar, sister Lina (16), and brothers Karim (14), Abdul (12), and Omar (8)) are currently based in Rafah, Gaza, where they have been since being forced to flee their home in northern Gaza.

Their family home, which was built 23 years ago, has been completely destroyed. The family is currently living in a tent. The area where they are staying is under constant threat of bombing, and a ground invasion is imminent. The family are terrified of this.

Finding food, water, or medical supplies is almost impossible. This is especially difficult for Mokhtar's Father, who has diabetes.

The donations will be used to buy food, jackets for winter, and tent supplies for the rain.
