Dahlias from bulb to flower with Urban Floral Farmlet
Event description
Dahlias from bulb to flower
Cottage garden starter with Marisa Vodanovich.
Marisa Vodanovich is a florist and urban farmer who creates bouquets fresh from her flower farmlet in Te Atatū Peninsula. Wanting to include dreamy nostalgic cottage flowers in the wedding bouquets but finding them difficult to find, Marisa turned to her own backyard to grow her own cottage flowers. Marisa's floral repertoire has since expanded to include dahlias, cosmos, cornflowers, nigella, ammi, daucus, daisies, poppies, lavender, snapdragons, alstroemeria, lavender, hydrangeas and more.

Dahlias are beautiful, easy to grow beginner cottage flowers. Their unassuming tubers rocket away in early summer to produce vibrant, long-lasting blooms. The pollinators in your patch will benefit from their pollen and colour, or Dahlias make a great cut flower to bring the colour inside. Join Marisa from Urban Floral Farmlet for this workshop all about Dahlias. Marisa will introduce you to the vibrant history of the plan and go into detail on the different types available, how to grow them, care for them (feeding and pests), and how and when to harvest flowers. Each attendee will receive a dahlia crown and a practical demonstration on division, so you'll leave the workshop with a dahlia to plant in your own garden. This workshop is guaranteed to help your cottage garden aspirations bloom this summer.
Tickets include:
Practical and theoretical instruction
A worksheet to take home
A Dahlia crown to take home and plant.
We look forward to seeing you on the farm soon!
