Description

Step into the Future of Contemporary Dance

A performance of the QUT DANCE '26 programmed specifically for secondary school students. Groups see the Showcase program in full, then stay for a 30-minute facilitated post-show talk with the emerging Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance) students and the QUT Dance staff, covering how the works were made, how movement material is generated and developed, and what tertiary dance study involves day to day.

As the culmination of a semester-long journey in KDB320 Independent Dance Project, students have devised, collaborated and taken risks to bring their unique visions to life. The program features five major works that respond to distinct global issues, showcasing the diverse perspectives and artistic voices of the next generation of dance makers.

From thought-provoking concepts to dynamic physicality, DANCE 26 explores new possibilities through challenging conventions and celebrating the evolving landscape of contemporary dance.

Why is it worth the excursion?

For senior Dance students, this is bold new contemporary choreography at close range, made by student artists working through the same creative problems — how to generate movement material, how to structure a work, how to perform someone else's choreography and your own. The intimate studio setting means students see technique and intention without the distance of a proscenium arch theatre.

Post Show Talk

The Q&A session offers a valuable opportunity for Senior Dance students to ask questions in relation to their own assessment tasks. This session aims to support these students’ studies in their performance, choreography, analysis of dance works, dance literacy and critical thinking. The afternoon timing is designed to fit a standard school excursion window.
