LAByrinth presents Our Stories showcase: Dance of the Deer
Event description
Dance of the Deer is a ritual theater performance guided by Jocelynn Suarez, a medicine woman returning to the sacred land of her Wixárika (Huichol) ancestors. Come be immersed in a vast desert full of thriving plant life, profound visions, and hidden medicine. Weaving together song, dance, storytelling, trance journeying, and captivating video design, Jocelynn will release old stories to make space for the arrival of Kauyumari, the ancient blue deer who shares life-giving gifts of flowers, corn, and hikuri (peyote). Dare to discover a most loving relationship with yourself and nature, as only the chosen will be taken to hear Kauyumari’s message on this Summer Solstice ritual theater experience.
-Jocelynn would like to dedicate this performance to the indigenous nature-keepers across what is the colonized US Southwest and Mexico. Without their care-taking and vision for ecosystem management, we would not know the wide array of plant and animal species endemic to this region. Please donate to support conservation projects and anti-mining campaigns of sacred Wixárika sites at www.wixarika.org/donate.
