DANCING COLLECTIVE POWER
Event description
Dance Performance × Political Theory Lecture × Radical Dance Party.
Ella-Gabriel Mason and dancers will be sharing the results of their research into parallels between improvisational dance practices and the skills of protest.
After interviewing community organizers who plan direct actions in Philadelphia and across the U.S., Mason identified gaps and weaknesses in current direct action training methods. Then they gathered a group of badass improvisational dancers in the studio and investigated ways to translate dancing skills to direct action.
How do we see and take up space? How can we move together and make spontaneous decisions together? How can we back each other up when facing physical repression in the streets? How do we find power in our own bodies and in how our bodies move together?
Come witness the results of this research presented as a combination of performance, lecture, and workshop.
Featuring dancing by:
Andrea Agostini, Xander Cobb, Meghan Frederick, Ella-Gabriel Mason, mik phillips, and Kate Seethaler
