Dangerous When Wet: The Musical (a workshop presentation)
Event description
Dangerous When Wet is the working title for a new musical theatre piece by Merran Hughes (writer) Eliane Morel (writer) and Joanna Weinberg (composer), which tells the story of Australians Fanny Durack and Mina Wylie, the first women ever to win Gold and Silver in a modern Olympic women’s swimming event at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. This story has a strong connection to the Randwick LGA, as Mina was a Coogee resident until her death, and Wylie’s Baths, where she trained, was owned by her father.
We believe these women should be household names.
This presentation of the concept and some of the songs from our new musical, will be the result of a one-week Randwick Town Hall Takeover, provided by Randwick City Council, which will allow us to creatively develop the show with actors/singers for one week.
This is not a finished product, but will give Randwick residents a behind the scenes glimpse into the work that goes on in creating a new musical theatre piece.
Doors open at 2.15pm. There will be an exhibition - 'Sydney's Mermaids' - on display, tea-towels available for sale, and afternoon tea will be served after the presentation, before a Q&A session with the show's creators.
