    Dark Botany Workshop

    Event description

In this workshop we will make seedballs using seeds from local native plants for guerilla gardening activities, drink herbal tea and listen to exclusive preview readings from the forthcoming book Dark Botany.

In this queer ecology workshop, led by Henry Wolff and ACE's Artistic Director Danni Zuvela, we’ll learn the simple craft of making “seedballs” (or “seedbombs” as they’re sometimes called) - seed-based clay missiles that carry with them a payload of sufficient soil, compost and seeds to grow a plant. With this “no-dig” guerilla gardening method, these rain-activated seedballs can be deployed from a pocket anywhere plants are needed.

Those who want to can get their hands dirty and roll seedballs together as we listen to live readings from the latest book edited by Critical Plant Studies expert Prue Gibson, Dark Botany: The Herbarium Tales“Dark Botany activates the material and sensorial wonder of plants - their energy, their mysterious allure, their capacities and skills, their independent might”, with topics including plant psychedelics, custodianship, the commons, plant imperial history, economic botany, robotany, capitalist plants and plant poisons.

ACE supplies clay, compost, seeds, tea and exclusive access to readings from Dark Botany (Open Humanities Press). Bring a small bag or envelope to take your seedballs home!
