Event description

Did you know UTS is enabling students in a variety of revolutionary ways to push the boundaries of big data and machine learning in healthcare – and we’d love you to be a part of it.

Join us on Wednesday 30th October for an innovation lab showcase event and meet the post graduate talent from the UTS groundbreaking Master of Data Science and Innovation (MDSI) program. This interactive showcase will enlighten audiences and allow you to discover how MDSI students are pushing the boundaries of data science and utilising big data and machine learning to improve patient health outcomes in the med-tech sector.

What is an Innovation Lab?

Innovation Lab or iLab is a studio-based subject in MDSI, a human centred, transdisciplinary data science program which provides learners with adaptability, resilience, and creative thinking skills in a data science context. Working with real-world problems, student teams investigate data-driven prototypes, utilising contemporary techniques and multi-structure data with support and insights from UTS academic and industry experts.

The Showcase

The iLab showcase is a culmination and celebration of the students’ hard work over the semester. Open to the public for one night only, join us for an immersive and creative event where you will see student works, discover how they developed their ideas, and experience how they have harnessed the power of big data and machine learning to improve patient health outcomes in the med-tech sector.

Some of the exciting themes explored through the projects include;

  • Enhancing Fall Detection Accuracy
  • Exploring the potential of metadata in Visual Question Answering
  • A Deep Learning System for Differential Diagnosis of Skin Diseases
  • Identifying High-Risk Patients with Postoperative Gastric Cancer Recurrence
  • Visual Question Answering System for Medical Images
  • Ensemble Learning for Early Detection of Diabetes
  • Early Detection of Parkinson's Disease
